Romilly Primary School visit National Museum Cardiff

Romilly Primary School applied to the Go and See scheme to take 90 of their reception learners on their ‘first gallery visit’ to National Museum Cardiff.

A tour and workshop

The learners were taken on a tour of the Natural History and Art galleries and also had the opportunity to participate in a printmaking workshop with artist Helen Clifford.

The visit had a focus on seascapes and beaches to coincide with the theme the learners had for their term; providing a link to work that could be carried on within the classroom once back at the school.

Enriching vocabulary and sparking imagination

Prior to their visit learners listened to stories and poems to enrich their vocabulary and spark their imagination. The visit added a new dimension to their learning, encouraging new confidence to express ideas through a variety of media.

On their return to school the year group spent a week exploring the work of different artists and techniques including printmaking, collage, painting, weaving and sculpture. The culmination of this project was an exhibition inspired by their summer topic of "The Beach" held in the school, featuring in the local paper.
