Stepaside Primary School visit Swansea University's Egypt Centre

Stepaside Community Primary School in Pembrokeshire applied to the Go and See Fund to take Dosbarth Cadno to the Egypt Centre at Swansea University.

Following their successful Go and See application, Stepaside Community Primary School in Pembrokeshire, took 19 (year 6) students to the Egypt Centre at Swansea University for the opportunity to handle ancient artefacts and take part in practical workshops including music and drama.

Dosbarth Cadno and the Egyptians

The pupils of Dosbarth Cadno, who make up a high percentage of eFSM and traveller pupils were, at the time, studying the Egyptians.

The aim was that they would recreate some of the artefacts in their Art and DT lessons as well as creating films and animations based on the stories from the curators.

The pupils were given the opportunity to handle artefacts, explore the exhibit, wear costumes, make a mummy and many other subject related activities.

Due to distance and cost this experience would not have been possible without the funding from the Go & See Fund.

First hand experience for pupils

"Dosbarth Cadno have been studying the Egyptians as part of their topic work this term we were so very grateful to receive this funding and to be able to send our pupils to experience first-hand the artefacts and aspects of the Egyptians which they are studying in class."
- Mr Richard Adams, Class teacher.

"This was a unique opportunity for the children to learn about the Egyptians in a fun way. The staff at the centre had expert knowledge and enthused every pupil throughout the day. We will be using these learning experiences back in the class room. It was a memorable trip which has enhanced their learning and their ability to connect with the topic."
