WILLIAM SMITH WINS WALES DRAMA AWARD 2016

William Smith is the winner of the Wales Drama Award 2016, it was announced at a ceremony held this evening at Yr Hen Lyfrgell in Cardiff. He will receive £10,000 and the opportunity to develop his work with BBC Cymru Wales, BBC Writersroom and National Theatre Wales.

PETER REYNOLDS 1958 – 2016

This week we say farewell to the much appreciated composer, teacher and writer Peter Reynolds. The arts world of Wales mourns this keenly felt loss. It will continue to feel this through concerts and events that stretch before us where he would have been contributing music and wisdom. Among many achievements Peter recently held a Creative Wales Award which had spurred new departures in his approach to composition. Fellow composer and former member of the Arts Council, John Metcalf offers these words of appreciation for a career so sadly cut short.

Caerphilly Castle to be the spectacular setting for a Welsh-language Macbeth

Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru are delighted to announce further details of the company’s next production - an exciting and ambitious presentation of Macbeth. Shakespeare’s brutal tragedy, in a new translation by the late Professor Gwyn Thomas, former National Poet of Wales, will be presented at Caerphilly Castle in February 2017. It will also be broadcast live to cinemas across Wales, as part of the company’s new venture, Theatr Gen Byw. The production is a key event, as Cadw celebrate 2017 Year of Legends.

Survival, romance and atonement in a diverse community: Tiger Bay, a new musical, takes place in what was once the most cosmopolitan port in the world, Cardiff Bay. A Wales Millennium Centre production in association with Cape Town Opera, this brand new show takes us back to the dawn of the twentieth century at the height of South Wales’s coal trade with characters drawn from the melting pot of Cardiff’s famous docklands.
