Festivals play a huge role in the cultural make-up of Wales. We want to support projects that have well thought out plans to reach out to audiences so that the widest number of people can be part of your event.

Reoccurring festivals applying must demonstrate that a grant award will support development of the festival or new, additional activity.

We're keen to Support:

  • Inspiring festivals that consider engaging ways of connecting with audiences and communities and are driven by or include an innovative and distinctive artistic vision.

  • Festivals that have a track record of commissioning and presenting new work and of providing opportunities for Welsh or Wales based individual artists and freelancers.

  • Focused, time-limited festivals with vibrant, high-quality arts programmes of events and activities

  • Festivals that celebrate the diversity and cultures of Wales.

  • Festivals that evidence a strong local presence which creates a sense of place or animates a town or locality.

  • Festivals with clear audience development plans and outreach activity to ensure the widest range of people can enjoy the event.

  • Programmes that encourage new artistic discovery, community development and the nurturing of artistic talent.

  • Festivals with a sense of place and that help bring communities together.

 We will not support:

  • A collection of single events without a clear artistic vision or creative rationale.

  • Projects that don’t consider how they’ll develop their audience base and reach out to the widest number of people.

  • Projects that parachute into a community with little consideration for longer-term vision and legacy.

  • Festivals that don’t demonstrate any development in terms of programming, reach or aspiration.
