La Biennale curator 2013
The Venice Biennale (La Biennale di Venezia) has for over a century been one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Ever since its foundation, it has been at the forefront in the research and promotion of new artistic trends. In Venice, it organises international events in the field of the contemporary arts that are amongst the most important of their kind in the world.
The title chosen for the 55th International Art Exhibition is Il Palazzo Enciclopedico.
The Exhibition draws inspiration from the model of a utopian dream by Marino Auriti who filed a design with the U.S. Patent office in 1955, depicting his Palazzo Enciclopedico (The Encyclopedic Palace), an imaginary museum that was meant to house all worldly knowledge.
The board of the 55th Venice Biennale, chaired by Paolo Baratta appointed Massimiliano Gioni as the curator of the 2013 Venice Biennale.
