About the Artist
Tracy is a writer, performance artist and filmmaker from Swansea. Her plays have been commissioned and produced by Script Cymru, Sherman Cymru and Mighty Theatre Washington. They include, Past Away, Cloak Room and No Vacancies.
Last year The Reading she produced was selected for the short film corner at Cannes Film Festival. Along with Chris Rushton she made the nine-part BBC Bafta Nominated Documentaries on homelessness: Swansea Living on the Streets. They are currently under commission by BBC Wales to make three more films about vulnerable women driven to prostitution. Along with writer in residence Billy Muir, Tracy has worked for the past three years at the Hay in the Parc Festival at Parc Prison. Working with prisoners they have created two radio plays and a theatre play as well as contributing to the publication of In then out then in, a Literature Wales publication featuring prisoner’s words.
Her feature film No Vacancies has been commissioned by Spinning Head Films and her first one woman show Lost Found Stolen was developed through National Theatre Wales WalesLab and Arts Council of Wales.
The Creative Wales award will allow Tracy to bring together the two strands of her work to date in an attempt to create an entirely new piece of Documentary Theatre. She intends to take the experimental and reactive tone of her work as a playwright and combine this with her filmmaking of social documentaries. Given her documentary background, she is keen to engage in a wide and far-reaching process of research about truth and reality and how we write and use real stories in an honest and dramatic way.
