Urban Folk Mash
It is Katherine’s intention to spend a period of time researching the storytelling methods of traditional and folk revival musicians (both national and international) and folklore and mythology storytellers.
She will apply their practises to her methods as a contemporary playwright, therefore expanding her current practice as a realistic dramatic writer to include experimental new procedures.
Katherine is interested in learning the structures, rhythms and patterns of folklore and folk music and applying them to modern day urban themes and realistic social commentary.
The funding will be used for her to spend periods of time immersed within the folk communities of Wales, Scotland and Ireland; allowing her creative time to learn, collaborate and explore and to create diverse, innovative and contemporary work.
This will enable Katherine to achieve her goals and work in new ways, enhancing her writing skills and impacting on her playwriting in the long term.
Katherine’s aim is to create a piece of work of contemporary folklore and urban street mythology, set and produced in Wales.
