The Project

An exploration of moving image in relation to performance; an opportunity to focus on a new body of work; discovering new opportunities for exhibiting and developing relationships with curators to create a supportive framework.

Holly Davey: Lightbox Commission, ChapterOver the last year, Holly’s current art practice has slowly developed, moving away from photographic performances to working with moving image and the notion of performance to the lens. This award would support her practice, enabling an exploration of these new and exciting ways of working, giving the ideas a chance to develop and evolve. She has begun to engage closely with site-specific methodology, using the history or architecture of a location as a starting place to research and explore her ideas. She hopes to challenge this exciting new direction with the depth and vigour it deserves. This level of engagement and analysis will support and inform her practice for years to come.

The project will explore:

  • The use of performance in relation to moving image
  • An exploration of live performance in relation to recorded video performance
  • A series of experiments with live sound in relation to recorded image
  • An exploration of the position of the audience in relation to the performances taking place.

This is an innovative way of working in relation to her creative practice and she hopes it will help to push the boundaries of performance within art practice in Wales and beyond.
