Description

Artist Opportunity – madeinroath festival 2018

Background

The madeinroath festival is an artist-led event which aims to take art out of the gallery and into the wider community. Now in its 10th year, the festival showcases the work of emerging and established artists, makers, musicians, writers and performers, who use the whole of Roath as the venue, including domestic, commercial, public and overlooked or disused spaces. You do not need to be a Roath resident to participate in the festival. madeinroath offers residents and visitors an opportunity to engage in the arts through a dynamic programme of events, including an open exhibition, open houses and studios, workshops and a number of site responsive happenings, residencies and commissions This year’s madeinroath festival will run from 14 - 21 October, with the main events happening on the 20/21 October.

Project

We are looking for expressions of interest from artists who would like to be part of madeinroath's visual art/happenings 2018 programme. The potential manifestations of artwork are wide ranging, and could include performance, sound, installation, movement/dance, social events, sculptural, public intervention, video, spoken and written work, light works, photography and 2D. We are asking for new work, not an existing body. Artists working in any media are able to apply and we encourage applications from artists at any stage of their career. Appointments are based on proposal, with a view to appointing a range of projects from a variety disciplines.

Location

madeinroath will assist in finding suitable spaces for selected proposals throughout Roath, previous venues include empty shops, cafés, churches and places of worship, on the streets, bus stops, hoardings, in windows and on noticeboards, online/digital and interactive, in community halls, pubs and at the Saturday farmers market etc. If you have a location or type of location in mind for your project please state this in your application.

Festival Theme

For our 10th year we are thinking about all the wonderful relationships which have developed over the last decade, the support we have received from the Roath, and wider, community, and the strength that comes from working collaboratively. Proposals around this theme are welcome, but it’s not essential if you have a different project/subject in mind.
