Desert Island Discs: with Gwyneth Lewis and Joe Dunthorne

To choose just three top tunes is a challenge indeed. Join writers Gwyneth Lewis and Joe Dunthorne in conversation with Radio Wales DJ Bethan Elfyn for an evening of words, music and ideas at the Wales Millennium Centre this September.

Joe DunthorneBoth writers will reveal which songs they would take to a desert island and why, and inbetween snippets from the songs read from recent work. From an exploration of the impact of music on their writing to the wider relationship between soundtrack, song and literature, this event will take you behind the pages of two celebrated writers to find out what inspires them most.

Joe Dunthorne’s novel Submarine (Hamish Hamilton, 2008) was adapted for the screen in spring 2011, with a soundtrack composed specially by Arctic Monkey Alex Turner. His latest novel Wild Abandon (Hamish Hamilton) was published in early August.

Gwyneth Lewis was responsible for composing the words on the front of Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre. She is one of the poets in the Poetry Book Society’s Next Generation promotion and recently won a major Creative Wales Award. Her latest titles include A Hospital Odyssey (Bloodaxe, 2010), The Meat Tree (Seren, 2010) and Sparrow Tree (Bloodaxe, 2011).

A second Desert Island Discs event in the Welsh language, Dy CD Di, will take place on Thursday 15 September. Bethan Elfyn will discuss with writers Dewi Prysor and Catrin Dafydd their musical choices. For further details about this event please get in touch.

Tickets are £4.00 / £3.00 concessions. Limited tickets available: book now to avoid disappointment.
