Efa, who is originally from Morriston, has extensive experience of leadership in both the public and voluntary sectors. Since 2016, Efa has been in the post of Chief Executive of the National Centre for Learning Welsh, the new body that is currently transforming the Welsh for Adults sector. Before that, she was Chief Executive of Urdd Gobaith Cymru for over a decade, during which time the organisation went through a period of substantial growth. Efa has extensive experience of leading national organisations that have the Welsh language at the heart of their mission.

Efa will follow in the footsteps of Gwerfyl Pierce Jones, who has been the company’s Chair for the past five years. Arwel Gruffydd, the company’s Artistic Director, said:

"I’m looking forward immensely to working with Efa, as we put in place ambitious schemes to present theatrical experiences of the highest quality that are varied, contemporary and relevant.

"As we look forward to a new period, I would also like to warmly thank Gwerfyl Pierce Jones for her valuable contribution. It has been a pleasure to work with Gwerfyl over the past five years and I, together with other members of staff and the Board, am very grateful for the commitment, experience, leadership and geniality she has shown; we as a company wish her well in the future."

Efa said: "I’m very much looking forward to joining the Board of Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru and contributing to the development of the Theatre over the forthcoming period. Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru is doing sterling work in attracting new audiences to the Welsh language and developing the theatre in Wales."

Efa joins Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru at a very exciting time. The company is currently enjoying an excellent response to its latest production – Nyrsys – which is touring Wales until 8 December. In the spring, the company will present two plays as one programme, namely Merched Caerdydd by Catrin Dafydd and Nos Sadwrn o Hyd by Roger Williams; both are contemporary plays by two of our boldest playwrights. The company will also continue to develop Theatr Gen Creu, their latest initiative to develop new writing in Welsh and to nurture creative skills in the theatre sector in Wales.
