Peak Commissions Artist for Green Man

Following a UK-wide open call, Crickhowell arts organisation Peak are commissioning Natasha Russell to create a new collaborative art work for the touring Horsebox Studio at Green Man Festival 2018.
Natasha is a printmaker, artist and illustrator currently based in Scotland. Her work explores the way that we understand the world around us through a web of cultural, scientific and personal knowledge.
The Green Man work will be designed in partnership with young people or ‘Image Makers’ on Peak’s Illumine project, a digital arts training project focusing on creating opportunities for children and young people. The young people are working alongside artists and creative industry professionals to reimagine the Brecon Beacons and wider Powys in new and exciting ways, creating digital content for display on web/social and at ‘y Gaer’, Brecon’s new cultural hub opening Spring 2019.
Participation Manager Rachel Dunlop said:
"We had so many brilliant applications from all over the UK for the commission, but Natasha’s really stood out for us. Her work will explore the unique qualities of this region, and we’re certain that both the Image Makers and visitors will love working with her. We will be running family-friendly workshops suitable for all ages throughout the course of the festival."
Festival goers will help Natasha create an immersive map filling Peak’s Horsebox Studio and weave wonderous tales about the festival and the surrounding landscape with hand carved stamps, prints and poems. They will draw inspiration from folklores and histories, to local landforms, flowers, plants and animals."
If you are going to be at Green Man, you can visit the Horsebox Studio and join in the workshops in Einstein’s Garden.
